International Medieval Congress - Leeds 2023

Le Congrès international des médiévistes (International Medieval Congress) qui se tiendra à Leeds (Royaume-Uni) du 3 au 6 juillet 2023 comptera plusieurs sessions consacrées aux cisterciens.
Ces sessions sont organisées par Terryl N. Kinder (Cîteaux. Commentarii cistercienses).

Session 102 (Monday 3 July 2023: 11.15-12.45) : Cistercians in Ireland, I

  1. Within and beyond the Pale: Who Were the Irish Cistercians? (David E. Thornton, Department of History, Bilkent University, Ankara)
  2. Discovering the 'Cemetery Gate' of St Mary's Abbey (Paul Duffy, Irish Archaeological Consultancy, County Wicklow / School of Archaeology & Ancient History, University of Leicester)
  3. Excavations at St Mary's Abbey, Dublin: The Archaeology of a Dissolved Urban Monastery (Edmond O'Donovan, Edmond O'Donovan & Associates, County Wicklow)

 

Abstract: This is the first of two sessions dedicated to Cistercians in Ireland - how did they get there, who were they, and where did they settle? After an introduction to the monks, two panelist will describe recent excavations at St Mary's, Dublin, the largest Cistercian abbey in Ireland.

 

Session 202 (Monday 3 July 2023: 14.15-15.45): Cistercians in Ireland, II

  1. The Legacy of St Mary's Abbey in the Streetscape and Lands of Dublin City and County (Geraldine Stout, National Monuments Service, Ireland)
  2. Cistercian Ideals in the West of Ireland: The Landscape of Corcomroe Abbey, County Clare (Silvina Martin, School of Archaeology, University College Dublin)
  3. Excavations of a Cistercian Grange at Stalleen in the Boyne Valley, County Meath (Matthew Stout, School of History & Geography, Dublin City University)

 

Abstract: In this second of two sessions on Cistercians in Ireland, the panelists will describe the legacy of St Mary's, Dublin in the city itself and in the countryside, including landscapes, and granges.

  3. ARCCIS: An Association for the Promotion of Cistercian Culture (Eric Delaissé, Centre européen pour le rayonnement de la culture cistercienne, Association pour le rayonnement de la culture cistercienne, Cîteaux)
  4. The Trappist (Cistercian) Monastery of St Susan at Lulworth, Dorset (David Bell, Department of Religious Studies, Memorial University of Newfoundland)

 

Abstract: This session involves Cistercians - and resources concerning them - that have been eclipsed by history (or geography) until the research that will be presented here.
